America’s Healthiest Schools 2025: Recognizing Student and Staff Well-Being

Last month the Alliance for a Healthier Generation released the 2025 list of America’s Healthiest Schools. This year, 1,120 schools (K–12) across 35 states were recognized for their commitment to creating healthier, more supportive environments for students and staff — a 27% increase from 2024 and the largest number of honorees in the program’s history.

Supporting social-emotional health and staff well-being
Kaiser Permanente Thriving Schools is proud to sponsor 2 key award categories that reflect our commitment to healthy schools and communities:

  • Strengthening social-emotional health and learning
  • Cultivating staff well-being

This year, the number of recognized schools in both categories grew significantly:

  • 320 schools earned recognition in the social-emotional health and learning category — a 76% increase over 2024.
  • 441 schools were honored in the staff well-being category — up 24% from last year.

These award-winning schools are taking meaningful steps to build environments that support both the emotional resilience of students and the well-being of teachers and staff — an essential part of long-term success in education and community health.

Since its launch in 2007, the America’s Healthiest Schools program has honored more than 3,300 schools nationwide. The number of All-Star schools, those recognized in all 9 categories, has increased 15-fold — signaling stronger nationwide momentum for whole school health.

“Schools are navigating a complex landscape — from rising student needs and mental health challenges to educator fatigue and resource gaps,” said Annie Reed, DrPH, MPP, executive director for Kaiser Permanente Youth and School Engagement. “A healthy school environment is more important than ever, serving as a foundation for learning, connection, and lifelong success.”

Growing reach in Kaiser Permanente communities
Recognition also grew significantly in communities where Kaiser Permanente serves. This year, 63 school districts within Kaiser Permanente’s service areas earned awards, representing 348 schools. These schools often benefit from year-round support through Thriving Schools programs and no-cost resources, all designed to help leaders implement evidence-based strategies for health and well-being.

Showcasing innovation and impact
