Resilience in School Environments (RISE)

Kaiser Permanente Thriving Schools developed Resilience in School Environments, or RISE, to empower schools to create safe and supportive learning environments by cultivating practices that strengthen the social and emotional health of all school employees and students.

RISE works with schools and districts to prepare staff to better understand and integrate social and emotional well-being into all aspects of school life, both theirs and their students.

Benefits of RISE

RISE programming aims to:

  • Increase staff job satisfaction and reduce staff stress
  • Improve safety, connectedness, and relationships among students and staff and also within the whole school community
  • Increase skills related to social and emotional learning among students and staff
  • Increase mental health supports for students and staff

Engage with RISE today at no cost through these offerings:

Resilience in School Environments (RISE) Index and Action Center

The RISE Index links to a rich set of resources in the Action Center designed to support districts and schools in identifying strengths and opportunities for improvement in policies and practices that promote the well-being of students, staff, and teachers. After creating a free account, anyone working in a school or district can log in, answer a series of assessment questions, and get instantly connected to resources for improving social-emotional health within their environment. Visit the Action Center and create a free account.

Once your account is created, follow these steps to get started:

    1. Select “Join a School,” “Join a District,” “Join Out-of-School Time Site,” or “Join Another Organization.”
NOTE: If your school, district, or organization is not yet in the system, you can request to have it added.

      • If you join a school you will immediately be given access to your school’s Action Center.
      • If you join a district, you will see a message stating that your access is pending approval. Once approved you will have access.
    2. Once you have access to the system, we highly recommend starting with completing some or all of the RISE Index sections.

Schools and districts use tailored versions of the Index to self-assess across a variety of distinct topic areas and discover opportunities for improvement.

For Schools:

  • School-Staff Well-Being
  • School Systems
  • Universal Prevention Strategies
  • Targeted Intervention Strategies
  • School-Level Collaboration

For Districts:

  • District Staff Well-Being
  • District Leadership Team
  • District-Wide Policies and Procedures
  • District-Level Collaboration

Through the Action Center you will have access to hundreds of resources all of which can help build and sustain your school community.
